Solar Electricity – Simple, Efficient, Clean, Green
Rooftop solar electric (photovoltaic) systems produce power right at the point where it is needed. No more moving of power over aging transmission lines! When connected to a utility, excess power is sold to the utility and sent into the grid. The move to solar electricity by more and more homeowners and businesses is changing the way power is produced and distributed.
Affinity Solar Energy-designed systems are silent and have no moving parts. A solar system is simple:
- Solar electric (photovoltaic) panels generate DC power directly from sunlight
- An inverter converts the DC power to AC power so that it can be used
- Batteries are only required if the installation is not connected to a utility grid, or back-up power is desired.
With utility costs always increasing (9% between 2008 and 2011), solar electric systems provide powerfully cumulative savings over time.
Off-Grid Solar Installations
Whether your dream home is located too far from public services, or you simply want to cut the cord from your local utility, an off-grid solar installation can fully meet all of your power needs. The technology has been around for decades, but our team at Affinity Solar Energy has perfected it to be highly efficient. There is no need to ever worry about running out of power during winter time.
The most common power sources for an off-grid solar system are solar (photovoltaic) panels and wind turbines, but a hydro source can also be used when available. A battery bank stores energy for later use when sun and/or wind exposure may be low. Of course, awareness of energy consumption and energy conservation consciousness help to make an off-grid application successful.
If your site has good southern exposure and/or exposure to wind, and you would like to discuss an off-grid application, we can give you full information on the best options for your site. There is no charge or obligation. Give us a call at 707-836-9195 or send us an email at info@affinitysolar.com.
California-based Incentives
As of September 2011, the CSI rebate is $0.25 per watt. That’s $1,425 for a typical 5.7 kW installation mentioned above! Solar electric systems are currently also exempt from property tax in California.
Federal Tax Credits
As of 2011, the Federal tax credit for residential solar installations is 30%, based on system net cost after rebate. Additional tax credits are available for business.
